Core Team Meetings: Growth Through Goal Setting and Consistent Relationships

At Intrepid Young Adults, real progress doesn’t come from big speeches or one-time plans.

It comes from showing up every week.

Our young adults meet weekly with our Clinical, Program, and Academic Directors for what we call Core Team Meeting. These meetings are simple yet powerful.

In collaboration with our young adults, we:

  • Set clear, realistic goals that connect to our Four Areas of Focus: 1) education/career, 2) health/wellness, 3) relationships/community, and 4) Independence/daily living skills

  • Reflect honestly on what’s working well

  • Name struggles without shame or lecturing

  • Have hard conversations when something isn’t aligned or an issue is impacting their progress or engagement

  • Reconnect choices to their values and long-term goals

This isn’t about compliance or checking boxes. It’s about learning how to self-reflect, sit in discomfort, advocate for one’s needs, and stay accountable – skills many young adults haven’t had the chance to practice or develop while having meaningful support.

At Intrepid, progress happens in the context of relationships.

Growth happens when our team sits, reflects, and encourages each young adult week after week.

In a supportive way, we can say “Let’s look at this honestly and figure out the next step together.”

That’s the work. And it matters.
